How To Promote Affiliate Links On Quora Using Semrush SEO Tool

What is Quora and how to use it correctly?

Internet. A place where you can kill time by watching endless funny cat videos all day long, buy almost anything you want with a click, or create a website to call your own. It has completely transformed our lives and allowed us to create new, digital ones. It can be a bit of a gray area, though, when it comes to getting information and answers to questions.

what are u doing? Simply ask Google and hope for a straight answer? Scroll through search results? Looking for similar questions on social networks to find an answer? When you find one, how do you know it's the right one? If you find yourself in this predicament, it's a fairly common one, and you should consider checking out a great resource that you may often overlook: Quora.

Quora is an interesting site that feels like a part search engine and part social network, but its purpose is to provide answers and let you answer questions for others on subjects you know. There's a lot more to it than that, so we're going to show you exactly what Quora is and how to use it right.

What is Quora?

In a few words, Quora is a question-and-answer website. It was founded in 2009 by two ex-Facebook employees and is actually called Quiver instead. However, the question-and-answer site has grown tremendously since its inception, aptly described as "a more organized Yahoo Answers, a classy Reddit, [and] an opinionated Wikipedia," according to Vox's journalist of record Theodore Schleier.

In 2018, it was announced that Quora had reached over 300 million active monthly users, showing that the site really has the legs to operate.

Is Quora a reliable source?

Quora's basic function works very simply: you can search for questions to get answers or answer questions on the site. That said, the biggest concern with this type of crowd-sourced information is whether the information provided is actually true, or at least completely accurate. Fortunately, many of these woes are alleviated because industry experts often use Quora to provide answers. Let's dive into it a little further.

Getting started with Quora

Now we'll show you the steps to set yourself up for success with Quora:

  1. Sign up
  2. Fill out your profile
  3. Know your nutrition
  4. Learn your question-and-answer post options
  5. Have fun with Spaces
  6. Ask questions, get answers, and be thankful

1. Register

The first part is the easiest part: signing up. How you decide to do that is up to you, but you're given the choice of signing up with your Google account, your Facebook account, or both in favor of a simple email signup.

Once you register, you will be presented with a screen asking you to select 10 topics of your choice. The topics you choose will be used to generate your feed, which we'll touch on below. The next step will ask you if you'd like to join Spaces groups, which again, we'll cover later. After that, you will be served your feed, and that's where the real fun of Quora begins. But first, you have a little digital housekeeping to do.

2. Fill out your profile

As with anything moderately social on the Internet, filling out your profile is essential. For Quora, filling out your profile to the best of your ability is more critical than some other social networks on the Internet, as being a trusted source of answers is critical.

Quora's profile section provides a collection of different fields for you to fill. It starts with your profile photo and profile credentials, the latter of which can be viewed as your primary industry or area of expertise or your job title. This will show up prominently when someone views your profile. As you would expect from any profile, below this is the section where you can add a brief description about yourself.

On the right side of the profile page, you'll find two additional sections: one for adding your job, school, and location credentials, and another for adding topics you're known for. The last section allows you to search for topics and it will display all topics with the keyword you searched for to add to your profile.

3. Know your Quora feed

Even if you spend most of your time on Quora, the feed is one of the best places to find questions about topics you care about. In the beginning, your feed will only consist of the topics you pre-selected when you first signed up, but you can, of course, add more. You can always search for a topic in the search box at the top of Quora, select it and click "Follow" to open its page. It is that simple. From there, new and relevant questions from that topic will be added to your feed. The same goes for unfollowing a topic: go to the page of the topic you're following and click the "Follow" button marked in blue. It will be white to indicate that it is a page you are no longer following.
It's more than just the topics you follow

Your feed has a lot more to offer than just the topics you follow. It's also a great place to find other people on Quora as well as spaces to follow. Apart from these, you will also see suggested questions to answer and you can easily answer, pass or follow each one. You'll be presented with questions that have already been answered, so you can vote, share and comment. Also, you can see a list of topics you've followed on the left for quick access. Last but not least, at the top of your feed you'll find a super quick way to ask a question or share a link with others.

Set up your account

If you are new to Quora, there is also an additional section on the right side of the feed. It's just a list of tips to help you get comfortable using Quora. This section is called "Set up your account" and has a small list of items to cross off once achieved. The list includes the following:

  1. more spaces follow
  2. 6 moAccess your feed
  3. 5 topics to follow
  4. Upvote 5 more good answers
  5. Ask your first question
  6. Add 3 credentials
  7. Answer a question

If there are, each "achievement" on the list will be linked so you can start taking action.

4. Learn your question-and-answer post options

Getting questions answered is basically the whole point of Quora, so it's smart to know all your options for the questions posed.

First and foremost (and most obviously), you can answer a question. But, there's more you can do. In addition to answering the question, you can follow the question in whatever topic it is. You can click the “Request” option, which allows you to search for someone with knowledge on the topic and request the selected person. Answer the question.

While the options above are the most prominent ways to interact with a question, you are not limited to them. Here are some other options:

  1. Leave a comment
  2. Share on social networks or copy the link
  3. Answer later
  4. Follow the question privately
  5. Notify about edits to the question
  6. Edit the question and source
  7. Edit topics
  8. Combine the questions
  9. View statistics and log them
  10. report

As you can see, there's a lot you can do with questions. Of course, unless you're a Quora superuser, you won't be using the bullet options above for every question you come across, but it's good to know that there's definitely more to do here than just answer a question.

answer

Surprisingly, the answers are displayed directly below the questions on Quora. Like the questions, the answers have their own set of options, but a little more on the simpler side.

Your job as a user is to find the most appropriate answer to a given question (if it's not yours, that is) and vote for it. A sufficient number of votes will change the placement of the answer, and the one with the most votes will be placed directly below the question and considered the best answer.

For answers, the basic functions are upvoting, sharing (on Quora), commenting, rejecting and sharing on social networks. Additional options are:

  • bookmark
  • promote
  • Suggest edits
  • thank you
  • Log
  • report

5. Have fun with Quora Spaces

On November 7, 2018, Quora announced a new feature for the platform called Spaces. Quora Spaces were called, "collections and communities created around shared interests and hobbies." Introducing the feature adds a community and social media vibe to the platform that makes it a great addition to your social media marketing efforts.

Spaces are similar to Reddit's subreddit feature in that they offer a community space dedicated to a particular subject. Quora users can follow specific spaces to find new questions and answers related to the topic.

Spaces can be especially satisfying, as you're part of a community interested in the same topic and might ask questions you never thought of. Users who follow a space can post related links to share with other followers, so it can be a news source on the topic.

The Spaces announcement post shared that spaces can be used in a variety of ways, namely:

A group of people can work together to curate more interesting answers and links about a particular area of interest, such as Farm-to-Plate or SaaS Daily.

A person can use the space to organize their own writing into different sections, as Robert Frost does with his space exploration answers, McTan with his posts on the US midterm elections, and Salon with their collection of culture and political articles.

A community of people can create a space to share conversations with each other, such as the Science Lounge or the Defense Quorum.

6. Ask questions, post answers, and thank Quora contributors

As with Reese, there is no wrong way to use Quora, but there are ways to use it less. If you're simply using it to find answers to questions people have already asked, it's hard to see the harm. Still, asking questions is what Quora is all about, so make yourself and others a favor and get to ask those tough questions.

Quora also did not become what it is today from being a platform full of unanswered questions. Searching for answers to questions is probably how many people Quora doesn't know about what it found. If you're looking to take advantage of the site's capabilities, you'll want to give back a little and answer questions! Plus, sharing your expertise on a subject you know and are interested in should lift your spirits. Not to mention, the more questions you answer, the more you can build a reputation as an expert!

A parting tip for using Quora is thanks to users who provide informative, well-written answers. If you see an answer that's genuine and provides insight that isn't in the current top answer, be sure to upvote it and thank the user.
